As a CC rider, I was way out of my league here.  This is hilly.  Really, really hilly.  Also made the mistake of wanting to take my 15 pound dog on a biking weekend..... As I drove to the school to register, the driveway to the building was S curved -- you couldn't drive straight to the top.  At that point I looked at Teeny and said, "we may not need to get out of the car for this one...."   At the registration area I asked which of the several routes would be flatter than others; no answers.  The modest route we chose the next day was challenging.  Decent rest stops and pretty scenery.  My legs had stopped screaming at me by the time I was done -- we were no longer on speaking terms.  The next day listed rides with several mile inclines, a gravel option my friend didn't want to do on her road bike or a 10 mile family ride.  We did the 10 mile family ride.  We were bummed it was such a short option, but it was really an amazingly beautiful stretch of road.  If you're into hills, this is one for you! --- my regular riding buddy bailed on this one and did the Terry Wild Goose Chase on the eastern shore instead (she reported it was awesome, flat, but bring your own food for rest stops;  I'm skipping the Fall Festival this year and doing the Goose Chase!)      (October 19-21, 2012 this year)

Oh no , I just signed up for this one! As a matter of fact, I was looking forward to a family biking outing and am hoping that the family rides will suit my nine year old son. Now I am hoping it won't be too much for him. I was also want to try and get in a longer ride each day in addition to the short routes. Hopefully, it will be enjoyable!

If you are taking a 9 year old, you already know this is a ride, not a race.  The short family route on Sunday was very, very beautiful.  You will have fun.   You can shorten any ride by just turning around!   Enjoy your family time!
