Ride leader: Steve Palincsar
Members: Karen & Stu Morgan, Lisa Oken, Pat Walthers
Guests: Len, Jill, David, John, Blythe, Tracy, Melissa, Debra, Jesse, Bruce and Janis (Note: this was a joint ride with PPTC, and most of the guests are PPTC members. I used the OHBike ride waiver for all because it's better due to the cell phone number data.)
Weather: Does it get much better than this? Sunny but with all kinds of interesting clouds ranging from white to dark gray; breezy to windy at times; 65 at the start and 75 by late afternoon, except when the dark clouds covered the sun and the temperature plunged back to 65, only to rise again once the sun was uncovered. An absolutely beautiful day, and a great one for cycling.
Route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/2785219 56 miles, 2,064' of elevation gain through Fauquier County farm country. The Sprawl may be swallowing Nokesville, but so far it stops at the Fauquier county line, and the roads and the countryside on this route are little if any changed from what they were in the 1980s, except for three that had been gravel then but now are paved.
Mishaps & mechanicals: Bruce's tandem had a flat tire on Green Road, and Karen hit a pothole and got a snakebite flat a mile from the end of the ride. Bruce is an old hand, and flats are no challenge to him; although Stuart is a new cyclist he's been taking bicycle maintenance classes, and was eager to show his new proficiency.
