It was an all-B group but for me among those doing the long route today, and I felt sure by the time we got to the Indian Head Rail Trail they'd be long gone.  They weren't, but at the turn onto Bensville I sent them ahead expecting to not see them again.  Before long I was overtaken by the lead elements of Ron's group, and thanks in part to a wrong turn on Holly's part at the spot where Bealle Hill goes straight and Accokeek Rd turns right, I had company all the way to Accokeek Park -- where, surprisingly enough, we all regrouped.  George was feeling good and decided to go the long route to Fort Washington, where he'd never been.  After the break at the Visitors Center we went into the fort so he could see the Potomac River views.

This route was originally designed in 2013, and I don't think it's been ridden since then.  A good part of that was the closure of Danville Road, I'm sure.  It's unusual in that most of the Southern Exposure routes that go to Fort Washington go up Barry's Hill, while today we took the IHRT to Bensville and went up Bealle Hill instead.  Also lately most routes to Fort Washington have taken Taylor Ave rather than following Livingston to Washington Lane and Old Fort Rd; it was a pleasant change taking Livingston today instead of facing the challenging climb on Taylor.
