Leader: Ron Altemus
Members: Sam Perry, Matt Schwaller, Rita Zeidner, Harold Datz, Joan Oppel, Don Gardner, Jim Hudnall
Route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/20253311 Up Barry's Hill to Accokeek, then climbed Mill Hill to Davis. Lexington/Middletown and the IHRT over to 301 for a rest stop at the White Plains Dash-In. Onward via Marshall Corner/Bumpy Oak, a short spurt on the IHRT and up Livingston to cap the ride. 36.9 miles w/935' elevation gain.
Weather: Heavy overcast at start w/temps in low 50s. Encountered winds out of the south in the low 10s making for a bit of a headwind, esp. on Middletown. Skies lightened some and finished with temps in the upper 50s. We might not see these temps again in the next couple of weeks.
Mechanicals: your faithful correspondent had a soft (i.e., flat) front tire upon arriving at the start. After carefully checking the tire for foreign objects and changing the tube, the tire immediately went flat again. Jim offered the use of Jane's front wheel and the ride went off as scheduled albeit a few minutes late.
Report: Sam and Matt set the pace, the rest of us followed. A missed turn here and there added to the fun and excitement. At the rest stop, Rita said Harold and her would finish at their own pace. She commented that "maybe she would miss a turn and get some extra miles." Not sure if she was joking or not, but the two of them arrived very shortly after the rest of us at the end. Of course, it can honestly be said that the high point of the ride was attained once completing the ascent of Mill Hill. Otherwise, just another nice ride in Charles County.
