Route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/27039188?beta=false 37 miles, 1843' of elevation gain on a route that went up Van Brady and through Marlton to a very quick rest room and water & ice stop at the McDonalds; chased away by blazing hot temperatures in the parking lot, we headed for the shade along Trumps Hill, where we found a small side road and a space in front of a driveway. As we were enjoying the shade and snacks, the homeowner came down and had a very pleasant chat with us, inviting us to use the location anytime. We went down Trumps Hill slowly, savoring the shade, then climbed Croom to the Mt Calvert Spur and went down Mt Calvert and across Duvall to a climb back up Croom Airport, eventually taking St Thomas Church and Fenno to a second rest stop at the Merkle Sanctary, returning by way of Nottingham, Tanyard, Baden Naylor and Molly Berry to North Keys. A very shady, enjoyable route for a hot and steamy day.
Mishaps & mechanicals: none on the ride, but by the time I unloaded my bike, the back tire was quite soft. Happy that happened here rather than out on the road!
