Ride leader: Steve Palincsar
Members: Jessica Hirschhorn, Pat Walthers
Weather: Overcast until close to 2pm, then partly cloudy, temperatures that felt like the low 40s due to the damp feeling and the greater-than-predicted breezes. Not an inspiring day, but as a "nap between storms and the rumblings of the March lion" it was a welcome break.
Route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/29416478 as actually ridden. 37 miles, <900' of elevation gain. Basically, Debby's CC route with a couple of tweaks: skipping Locke's Crossing in favor of Thompson Corner and the 3NT, and taking the 3NT to Baggett Park and back in lieu of Laurel Grove and Morganza Turner.
Mishaps & mechanicals: none
The day began inauspiciously, delayed by the closure of the Beltway at National Harbor, with leader and riders caught in the resulting traffic jams, but by early afternoon the sun had come out and the day brightened up considerably. Still a long way from golden spring sunshine, but a bright spot amid a stretch of unpromising weather. Thanks to Pat and Jessica for riding along with me.
On the four-legged-friends front, while Jessica stopped to photograph the goats adjacent to the 3NT at Morganza Turner we encountered two insouciant cats that spend their time lounging on the trail, as indifferent to passing cyclists as the dog at the crossroads in Tati's incomparable Les Vacances de Monsieur Hulot.
