A Short Ride to Nanjemoy

Sat, March 09, 2019 11:00 AM | Stephen Palincsar (Administrator)

Ride leader: Steve Palincsar

Members: Pat Walthers, Larry Peed, Lou Dallorso

Route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/12529274 (with additional miles going left on Smallwood Church to Chicamuxen, Sweetman and Bicknell)

Weather: overcast and damp, feeling much colder than the predicted 40-42 degrees, with a much stronger breeze than predicted.

Mishaps & mechanicals: Larry and Lou turned back at Annapolis Woods - Larry because his gloves weren't working anymore and his hands were freezing, and Lou because he had no gloves at all and nothing really suitable on for the weather.   Sometimes the 40s feels warm and pleasant: dry, warm sun, no wind - but that sure wasn't the case today: full winter gear was called for.

AMS: 11.2

After Larry turned back and Lou disappeared (we assumed he'd turned back too, but with Lou you never know) we stopped at Scott's Store and I tried calling, but went to voice mail.   Pat and I carried on, warming up on Durham Church but cooling down again after the stop at Friendship Farm Park.  That pattern repeated.  We were surprised at how little traffic there was: until we got to within a mile or two of Ironside, we saw but two cars on MD-6.  We felt fine at the decision point and opted for the additiona 6 mile long-cut on Smallwood Church, arriving at Pisgah Park with ample time for me to get to T&J's, arriving at the annual meeting in plenty of time.
