We had a good turnout of riders this time; the best turnout so far for the season. The wind was pretty strong and was definitely a factor in today’s ride.
Once the ride leader got off the front the pace accelerated very quickly. By the time the pack turned on to Spring Hill Newtown Rd. the group was already starting to fragment; by the time we turned on to Bel Alton Newtown Rd. the fragmentation was complete.
Unfortunately, the fragmentation of the group meant that most riders rode most of the time alone and in the wind. It would have worked better if the trailing riders had combined to share the effort but this was not to be. The average speeds I have are:
Lead: 22.2 MPH, 2 riders
Chase 1: 21.5 MPH, 1 rider
Chase 2: 20.2 MPH, 1 rider
Chase 3: 19.3 MPH, 1 rider
Most of the remaining riders came in as singles as well.
It was a nice day despite the wind and a fun ride.
