The Amazon Prime series AWOL (https://www.amazon.com/AWOL-Air-Water-Or-Land/dp/B07HPDTKPY) is working on an episode on things to do in Charles County. Thank you to those who came out Monday on short notice so AWOL could get video of cyclists on the Indian Head Rail Trail.
We started with coffee at the Clarity Coffee House in Indian Head (https://www.facebook.com/Clarity-Coffee-House-988295531354783). There we met AWOL host Angel Verde, his crew, and Kellie Hinkel and Maggie Boyden from the Charles County Office of Tourism.
We spent about an hour filming at the IHRT trailhead in Indian Head and at the trail alongside Mattawoman Creek. The hour of filming will be edited down to a few minutes in a 25-minute episode, which will probably be available in early summer. In addition to biking on the IHRT, the episode will show kayaking on Mallows Bay, birding at Post Tobacco River Park, horseback riding at Southern Grace Farm, and fishing with Miss Kayleigh Charters in Cobb Island.
After filming, Ron Altemus, Sam and I biked to White Plains and back. We saw Polly and Ron Haney biking back to Indian Head and learned later about Polly's close encounter with a falling tree. Thanks to Polly letting the IHRT maintenance crew know about the tree, it was already being cut and removed when we got to it on our return from White Plains.
Sam, Ron and I ended our ride with lunch at the Clarity Coffee House. If you haven't yet been there, give it a try. The sandwiches are delicious! Get your coffee before or a refreshing drink after your ride.
