It was cloudy most of the day but the clouds parted for a beautiful afternoon in time for the CJE.
The pack was together until the hill on Route 6. At that point the ride broke-up into a lead group, 2 chase groups, and a trailing group that was out of chase range. The 2 chase groups coalesced into a single chase group at the top of the hill and barely made it through the traffic light at Penn’s Hill Rd. At that point it was 3 riders in the chase group to 2 riders in the lead so the odds favored the chase group catching. They did but it took until near the end of Kentucky Ave.
The combined group was together until the hill on Budd’s Creek Rd. where the ride split into lead group of 3 and a chase group of 2. The chase group caught the lead group on Route 301 in short order – an impressive effort. Following this the lead group stayed together until the end with each rider pulling at the front as fast and for as long as they were capable.
The trailing group of 2 came in short order with an impressive 20.2 MPH average.
Somehow we lost Holden. We went looking for him down St. Mary’s Ave. but we never sighted him. I tried calling him later but the number went to a voicemail that hadn’t been set up so I couldn’t leave a message. I’m assuming he headed for home at some point near the end of the ride.
It was an another fun ride.
