May Metric - A Class 65 miles

Sat, May 04, 2019 9:03 AM | Pete Czapiewski

Leader:  Pete Czapiewski

Members:  Darryl Lowery, Eric Nielsen

Guests:  None

Route:  Cosca Regional Park to Merkle, McGruders Landing, Aquasco, Baden, and Cedarsville. 65 miles, 2,888 feet. https://ridewithgps.com/routes/29754670

Weather: Partly sunny and humid. 69-73 degrees. 4-5 mph winds.

AMS: 17.2 mph

Mechanicals/Mishaps: Eric flatted on the rough pavement a couple of miles before Merkle. Quickly changed without fuss.

Report: A few of the regular A riders opted to do the shorter B ride. Nevertheless, the three of us enjoyed a steady ride, working well together in a smooth paceline.

We rode by the first rest stop at Merkle, then did the full stop at McGruders Landing. Other than a couple who were  kayaking from McGruders, we were the only souls there.

Darryl opted to take a shortcut back after the next rest stop at the Baden Community Center, having ridden an extra eight miles from home to the start. Eric and I continued past the fourth rest stop at North Keys. At about mile 52, we started getting hunger pangs but continued on the next two miles before stopping at the WaWa for food and drink. We saw a few of the AA riders going home on the last few miles on Thrift Road, but returned to an empty parking lot.

All in all, this was a solid ride with a mix of challenging hills and extended flat sections. Thanks to Eric and Darryl for riding and to Barb Haney for organizing the event.

Thanks for leading, Pete! We drove past you and Eric at the top of Thrift so we knew you were almost done.
