The average, provided above, is parking lot to parking lot. The matching time trial segment average is 22.3. The lead group time trail segment speed is 22.6.
As per usual, the group split on the hill on Route 6. A good sized chase group managed to catch the lead group prior to the traffic light on Route 6. The pack split again on the hill on Budd’s Creek Road with some catching up on Route 301 and some not. There was further splitting on 301 and Fairground Road but all of these trailing groups remained in sight of the lead group until the end.
Everyone is rapidly approaching their peak performance levels for the season. Why do I say this? Well the 21.9 MPH average is for a rider who was near the lead group coming in. The last rider had an average of 20.1 MPH. This gives me a guestimate of about a 2.1 MPH spread between lead and last which is pretty tight. Add to this that many of the trailing riders were singles while the lead group was in a pack and there was a head wind coming in. All of this says that everyone in the ride today was very closely matched.
It was an another fun ride.
