Leader: Ron Altemus
Members: John Riconda, Donaro Gardner, Vicki Garlock, Randy Schoch, Diane Harris, Michael Dong, Belinda Acre, Robin Garnett, Jane & Jim Hudnall, Sue Jones, Barbara Haney, and riding the trail in the opposite direction(s), Bob Moye.
Route: the one, the only, the original! Indian Head Rail Trail, Village Green to White Plains and return.
Weather: overcast for the majority of the ride keep the temps in the mid 60s with some air movement out of the SW.
Mechanicals/Mishaps: Randy tumbled off his bike when he was unable to unclip at Middletown Rd. A slight scrape to his right calf was tended to at the White Plains rest stop.
Report: a big turnout today which might have included even more members but for a serious accident just south of Barry Rd on MD-210. At least one rider missed the ride because of the traffic jam, not knowing the work around using Livingston Road.
The Town of Indian Head had a "Bike to Work Day" event at the Village Green Pavilion and some members visited prior to the ride start. We thought that they were having a free lunch as part of the event and cut the rest stop short at White Plains so as not to miss it. However, there was no "free lunch" so some riders tried Dale's BBQ. We'll await the review from our food critics...
As to the ride proper, given the numbers, some riding from home, some arriving a bit late or meeting us at Livingston Rd, there were numerous riding groups outbound. We did all come together at White Plains and basically rode back en masse. Numerous other trail users - walkers, runners, and cyclists. Wildlife sightings included deer, turtles, a bluebird, and a crayfish mound (also called a crayfish chimney).
