Leader: Jim and Jane Hudnall
Members: Pat Walthers, Barbara Haney, Ron Haney, Harry Kidd, Larry Peed, Tom Short, Sam Perry, Alan Kurzweil, Linda Bankerd, and Donaro Gardner
Route: NK 40 Magruders Landing and Eagle Harbor. The route gave riders a chance to check out some of the roads and rest stop locations for the club's 20th annual Patuxent River Rural Legacy ride on Saturday, June 8.
Weather: Warm, in the 80’s, reaching 88 by the end of the ride. We started an hour earlier than originally scheduled because of the heat, humidity and thunderstorms forecast for the afternoon. We finished before the thunderstorms, but not before the heat and humidity.
AMS: The ride leaders rode sweep and had an AMS of 13.0 mph. Most riders had AMS of 14+
Report: At the Magruders Landing stop, much of the discussion was about a sinkhole in the middle of the lane on Baden Westwood Drive. No one fell, but it was a close call for a few. If the pothole report to the county doesn't get it fixed by June 8, we will circle it with orange warning paint.
We were disappointed to see that the IGA in Aquasco has closed. The post office in the IGA was closed a few months ago.
In Eagle Harbor, riders relaxed at picnic tables under large shade trees at the Community Center. With the scenic view of the Patuxent River and cooling breezes off the water, we had a longer stop than planned. Most riders skipped the potty stop in Cedarhaven Park.
Three riders stopped for cold drinks at the Aquasco Little Store. The store was recently remodeled and makes a good stop. Too bad it is not open on Saturdays and Sundays. We also stopped at the Baden Community Center to check on its hours. It does not open until 2 pm on weekdays, 9 am to 2 pm on Saturdays, and closed on Sundays.
