6/2 Rural Legacy Preview B/44

Sun, June 02, 2019 8:30 AM | Jane Hudnall (Administrator)

Leaders: Jim and Jane Hudnall

Members: Tom Short, Ron Haney, Barb Haney, Lou Dallorso, Don Gardner

Guests: Steve Perakis

Route: Starting from Mattaponi Elementary School, riders followed the Yellow fish for a 44-mile ride.

Weather: Beautiful spring day, warm with a gentle breeze. We will be happy to have this kind of weather next Saturday.

AMS: 11.9 for the ride leaders, who were marking a few bad potholes; faster for the others.

Mechanicals/Mishaps: None

Report: The group split up as the Hudnalls stopped to mark potholes and route numbers. We kept meeting Joan and Shelly doing the full route, Don who joined us at Jug Bay and Ron Altemus who was also marking roads. Report back from other riders: Tom did his own route and Steve decided to do the metric. Steve's car was the only one left in the parking lot when we returned, but he was fine and enjoyed following the fish. He wondered why two turns were marked with a split between the 44 and 63 mile routes. We explained that the second split was those who missed the first one! That happened last year.

The picnic area at Merkle has been worked on by the park maintenance crew. There will be 2 more porta-potties and plenty of chairs and tables there Saturday for the Rural Legacy ride.
