Leader: Brad Francisco
Members: Blake Altman, Diane Harris
Route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/24566695 - 54 miles with a half mile of climbing in a county that the maximum elevation is only a little over 200 feet.
Weather: 70's to mid-80's, wind from the SW about 12 mph
Mechanicals/Mishaps: Diane dropped a tootsie roll pop and had to go back and retrieve it (that let her know that her seat bag was unzipped)
Report: Somehow things work out
Blake was late arriving to the ride start, so we were late leaving the parking lot. We got to the next road and a car passed us with a bike on the back. Diane met us a short way down the road. She was planning to do Barb's ride out of Northern Senior Center, but loaded the wrong link into her GPS. We asked her to ride with us. We returned to the start point to restart the ride.
I started the ride going easy for the first 10 miles. On Ross road I pulled over and let Diane take the lead. An animal unleashed! She earned two Strava trophies on Ross Rd! Partway down Mackall road Blake took the lead and pulled us all the way to the first rest stop. Not much traffic out and the pavement was perfect.
The next third of the ride we had the benefit of the prevailing wind. More trophies for Diane and a QOM! Wilson Rd. was a breeze. We could not a recall a faster transit of that road. We passed the memorial ghost bike in memory of John and Lynne who were killed by a drunk driver on Tobacco Rd. Shortly thereafter we had our second rest stop.
The final third of the ride was powered by an Arizona Iced tea supplied by Blake. Nice shade for the first part of this section and it really felt like it was more downhill than uphill. What fun! Quirky street names. Red Octopus Lane and Goah Way were the most notable.
A fun ride with good company. Diane has always said to me that she is not an AA rider. Ha! Proven wrong today.
