Route BR 38 Bills,Bills, Bills

Class: B

Ride Leader: Sam Perry

Riders: Sonja Newman, Larry Peed, Tom Short, Tom Roberts,David Mann,Andy Schuller, Pete Czapiewski, Joan Oppel ( rode w/CC).

Low Eighties at start of the ride. Heat Index would rise to 101 degrees before the ride's ending.

With that in mind I made a decision to shortcut the route by shortening our time on Pomfret Rd and Bennsville Rd.  We used the Indian Head Rail Trail as a bypass, making a left onto Middleton Rd and picking up Billingsley Rd from there.  It shaved about 1.6 miles from the original route. At mile ten we had reached the WAWA in White Plains.

A short stop and regroup, we continued onto LaPlata. About mile fourteen, the humidity took its toll on me.  Recovery became a challenge, so I slowed my pace.

The group did wait for me, a couple of miles down the road.  We continued on to the Dash In at LaPlata. I told the group that I would be doing a slower pace and they moved on ahead of me.

At the Rail Trail by Bumpy Oak Rd I started cramping.  I used Pickle Juice, and two packets of mustard to stop the cramping. I climbed Bumpy Oak Road and cramped several more times.

Michael  Dong happened to be riding in the area and came to my assistance. He rode with me back to the start.

So some days you eat the bear, and some days the bear eats you. Better preparation next time.

I noticed feeling the heat from the pavement.
