Utica Park to Sixes - CC and C groups, combined    Harry Kidd photo

Ride leader: Steve Palincsar

Members: Harry Kidd, Barbara Wilson

Weather: Simply lovely.  Breezy, 70s, sunny but with extensive pretty cloud cover

Route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/30899890  36 mi, 1280' of elevation gain.  Rolling Frederick County farmland, three covered bridges and thanks to good planning, a good route planning tool and a lot of luck, rendezvous as intended with Debby's 47 mile route at Loys Station Park and Mt St Mary's College.

Mishaps & mechanicals: none

AMS: 10.5

The idea was, Debby would lead a 47 mi ride and I'd lead a 36 mi ride that had the same rest stops, and we'd start together, arrive at the rest stops together, and finish at the same time.  And, amazingly enough, that's just how it worked out.  We also had a chance to meet with the BBC Civil War Century Volunteers doing their CWC pre-ride, at Loys Station Park when we got there.   Our planning said there would be one rest stop where we wouldn't arrive together; we thought that would be the College, but instead it turned out to be Roddy park.  We arrived well ahead of Debby's group, had a nice chat with a motorcycling couple from Annapolis and while Barbara and I went on, Harry stayed behind hoping to photograph Debby's group coming through Roddy bridge.  He waited (and waited, and waited) while Debby's group hung out at Roddy Park and eventually gave up and continued on.   He did get photos of the CWC pre-riders, though.

I had a fabulous time today.  After weeks of oppressive heat, the change in temperature was a huge relief.  This ride was enormous fun.  Adding to the pleasure was the fact that although she'd been an OHBike member for a couple of years, this was Barbara's first actual ride with the group as well as her first time riding in Frederick County.  Her pleasure was great fun for me.
