Leader: Ron Altemus
Members: Pat Walthers, Steve Palincsar, Jay Lewis, Karen McMillan, Joan Oppel
Route: BR 35 Welcome Smallwood Church 35.3 miles, 1238' elevation gain. Bumpy Oak, Hawthorne, Ripley/Annapolis Woods, and Fire Tower to a rest stop at Scott's. Continuing on MD-6, Durham Church, Ironsides, Smallwood Church, Sweetman, and Bicknell to a second rest stop at Pisgah Store. Final leg via Mason Springs and Livingston.
Weather: sunny, temps climbing from the mid 70s to the mid 80s with the humidity also increasing, winds were out of the SE causing no problems.
AMS: swept at 11.4 mph
Mechanicals/Mishaps: crossing MD-210 at the start, Jay missed clipping in and the pedal came back and struck him in the lower shin a bit above the ankle. There was a small amount of blood and an immediate swelling into a "bump." Jay stopped at the Bryan's Road firehouse and asked for First Aid assistance but all they could offer to do was take him to the hospital. Since his injury wasn't hurting too much, he rode on, catching up with us on Bumpy Oak. After getting home, he applied ice and the swelling went down.
Report: Mike Saizan graciously volunteered to sign-in the Bees and act as ride leader for our friends. His ride report will follow. Karen rode some with Mike's group or otherwise between the two groups.
For the CC/C contingent, once Jay caught up with us, we rode together until Pisgah Store, and then those with time constraints did break away at a slightly faster pace. As we had two riders recently returned from tours in other countries, there was quite a bit of conversation about said trips. Both sounded like most excellent adventures.
