Ride leader: Steve Palincsar
Members: Ron Altemus, Fred Robbins, Jay Lewis, Mary Scala, Jim McDermott, Bob Howell, Pat Walthers, Debby Bowman and joining us at Baggett Park for a 30-ish version of the ride, Sarah Clement and Stephanie Judge.
Weather: Mostly to partly cloudy (in practice, sunny followed by heavy overcast and in some areas, obvious that it had recently rained, eventually clearing and becoming sunny) with temperatures ranging from the high 70s to the mid 80s (actually, it hit 90 by early afternoon, once the clouds cleared and the sun came out); winds supposedly around 4 mph but -- at least to me -- feeling much stronger, probably closer to 10 mph; very humid.
Route: the full 47 mi route is here: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/31080807 As far as I know, only Ron, Pat and I did the entire route and only the route as planned. Debby started an hour early and did an extra 10 miles, but -- along with Fred -- did Locke's Crossing but skipped Woodburn Hill. Mary (and Jim?) stayed on the 3NT at Locke's Crossing for the alternate 40 mile route, while Jay did his inevitable thing, shortening the route somewhere and Bob cut off early in order to be on time for the start of some kind of professional sports game involving a ball (shows how little I know about these things!). Sarah and Stephanie joined us at the first rest stop in Baggett Park and turned off Baptist Church right on the 3NT back to Baggett Park while the rest of us continued on Baptist Church to Old Village Road. That is, at least I think that's what happened.
Mishaps & mechanicals: none
AMS: 10.9 at the back
It was great to see everyone today. I was pleased we'd avoided the rain, and that the wet roads in the Loveville Mennonite area by and large were free of the horse droppings we'd encountered earlier in the ride on the 3NT. When Ron, Pat and I turned onto Pin Cushion, we encountered a couple of dozen buggies heading towards us in the opposite lane because church had just let out. Everyone was together at the rest stops and I think everyone had the feeling they'd all been on the same ride even though the actual distances ridden were all over the map, ranging from around 30 to almost 60 - a bit like an "all-class" ride of our very own.
