I posted a ride as the ride leader on Friday night as the weather on Saturday Sept 14th was perfect for a ride. Brad emailed me asking where I had been since I haven’t ridden with anyone for months. I told him I did a century ride on Labor Day in Oxon Hill and the Civil War Century on Sept 7th.
The ride I posted had no big mechanical issues until I hit Keech Road, I started to hear a clanking; but it wasn’t until I approached Oaks Road and started to climb when the noise became louder that I noticed it was my air pump which had come lose from the velco strap and my left crank arm was hitting the pump. I stopped on someone’s driveway keeping safe and rescued the air pump.
At this point I figured Brad had reached the top of the hill and was already at the Oak Ridge park entrance. When I got back on my bike and climb the hill at the top I saw Brad had already turned around and came back down the hill to meet me. When I told Brad what had happen he told me I couldn’t use that excuse again for not hitting the hill hard and fast. I told him I have a bag full more excuses that was given to me by our good bike buddy Darin King (who we miss and who is taking care of his baby girl).
I did call an audible and made the ride longer to make sure we did a metric century by not turning right on Gibbons Church Rd. We continued on and made a right on N. Keys Rd, this adds about 1 ~ 1.5 miles. In total we did 66 miles.
Brad did an excellent job leading the pace line. Fun was had by all.
