Lynne contacted David Kemp who had been riding Route 6 earlier and found out that the milling had started and he recommended avoiding the road. We decided to use the alternate route (https://ridewithgps.com/routes/22065398) that I had planned for this possibility.
We were all together until the hill on Chapel Point Road where the ride leader and another rider were separated from the rest of the group due to their furious attack of the hill. The ride leader was barely able to regain the group but sadly, the other rider was not able to. The ride remained in this configuration until the end with a lead group and the lone trailing rider.
The lead group worked together with each rider pulling more or less depending on their capabilities. Speaking of capabilities, Lynne has gotten really strong this year. She was accelerating the pace every time she was at the front and her time at the front was longer that anyone else’s. Not so good for the egos of the wimpy men in the group. Nice job Lynne!
A car was stopped on St. Mary’s Ave. as we rounded to turn on to the road coming back towards La Plata. The group slowed down and the driver eventually remembered how to drive and continued up the road. It wasn’t really a close call but a good reminder to maintain awareness of traffic conditions no matter how tired you are.
This was the penultimate CJE ride for this year and that makes me a bit sad. However, it was a fun ride.
P.S. I called the trailing rider and, unfortunately, he took a wrong turn but he assured me he was okay and close to the end. At least there was still plenty of daylight.
