Ride leader: Steve Palincsar

Members: C/CC: none; ABees: Barry Winkleman, Larry Peed, Barb Haney, Tom Short, Jay Lewis, Donaro Gardner and present but not accounted for, Jim Hudnall, Jane Hudnall and Lou Dallorso

Weather: an almost-too-perfect early fall day that was still firmly holding on to summer.  Sunny, breezy, 70s at the start rising to 90 by 2 pm (and concluding with a brief but intense rain shower on the way home that dropped the temperature to the low 80s and did a great job washing my car).

Route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/16714240  36 mi, 1600' of elevation gain (except that some cut it a bit short by taking Croom Airport rather than Mt Calvert and Duvall) with rest stops at the Patuxent River Park Visitors Center and at Merkle.  Thanks to the breeze and the shade, the rest stops were exceptionally pleasant.   The route in general was quite pleasant, again thanks to abundant shade.  Cheltenham and Duley Station could use some serious road work, and a thousand thanks for the orange outlines on those killer potholes on Park Entrance Road.

Mishaps and mechanicals: Although he had had advanced warning the day before that his right hand shift cable was fraying inside the shifter, Lou thought he could get one more ride out of it before it broke.  In reality, he got around 7 miles out of it before it broke, leaving him with a 2-speed.  On the other hand, it would seem that for Lou, two speeds are plenty enough for his needs.

AMS: 11.7 at the back.

It was all friends and no Cs or CCs today, and surprisingly few friends at that.  Perhaps the weather was too nice.
