Route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/31233183 shortened to 40 by skipping the Fairhaven / Leitch / Jewel / Wilson loop due to time constraints (i.e., between time lost to the wind and time spent at rest stops, we just plain ran out of it). We still ended up with somewhere near 2,000' of elevation gain.
Weather: Fall arrived. The mental juke box was stuck on I Still Miss Someone -- "At my door the leaves are falling; A cold wild wind will come..." High 50s at the start that felt much colder, partly cloudy skies that once in a while let warm sun peep through, and a wind that felt much stronger than the predicted 8-10 mph. The warming predicted for noon didn't materialize until after 2:30, and even then never got much above 65.
Mishaps & mechanicals: none
Either everyone was at the Seagull or they all thought it was too cold for riding. Normally on a route like this you see dozens of cyclists; today I think we saw 4 besides ourselves. I think a lot of the shock was due to the contrast: just a couple of days ago we set an all-time record with temperatures in the 90s, and now here we are wearing tights and glove liners for the first time in months, still calibrated for the 80s and 90s, having to relearn just how to dress for these conditions. Still, it was great fun riding and the time spent at the rest stops was thoroughly enjoyable. I don't think anyone regretted the trade-off.
