A John Deere Moment on Dr Johnson Road
Ride leader: Steve Palincsar
Members: Sarah Clement, Wayne Hunt, Larry Peed, Ken Meredith, Jay Lewis, Jim Hudnall, Jane Hudnall, Debby Bowman, Ron Altemus
Weather: 42 and partly cloudy at the start, rising to the low 50s as it briefly cleared before the cloud cover became more dense and the temperature fell to the mid-40s. We beat the start of the rain by about an hour.
Route: the plan https://ridewithgps.com/routes/31504866 was to take MD-6 to Flora Corner, then cross over MD-5 and take Old Village down to the WaWa at the intersection of 5 and 235.
Late last night I got an email from Bob Howell letting me know MD-6 had been milled for around 6 miles of our route. It was too late to change the route and cue sheet, but the workaround was obvious: stay on the Three Notch Trail to Lockes Crossing, switch over to Old Village, getting back on course and silencing the complaints from the GPSs once past Old Flora Corner.
There seems to be some doubt as to whether they'll be able to finish the work before winter sets in and shuts down road paving. It would be a shame to have to live with a milled road until spring!
Mishaps and mechanicals: none
AMS: 11.6 at the back
Jim took several photos, which are posted on Facebook.
