Weather: An incredible Winterlude of fine spring weather. Dark Sky promised temperatures ranging from the mid to the high 60s, winds ranging from 10 at the start to 6-7 by early afternoon, and partly cloudy skies clearing as the day advanced, but it actually was nicer than that. It felt a bit chilly at the start - 65 and a brisk wind meant full length jerseys, tights and wind vests - but at the Nanjemoy Store at mi 10 -- in the sun and out of the wind -- it felt like the 70s. By 2 pm all traces of clouds were gone, the wind had died down to a gentle breeze and it felt like May. In all, an absolutely delightful day.
Mishaps and mechanicals: While getting ready to ride, Alan discovered he'd left his helmet home and decided not to ride. That's one way, but not the preferred way to make sure you get home in time to make the OHBike Board Meeting.
AMS: 12.4 at the back.
What a fantastic day! As forecast, it rained in the small hours of the morning and by 11 the roads were almost completely dry with a few occasional puddles mainly on Mason Springs/Ironside and MD-6, with their smooth pavement. We decided, since the Nanjemoy Store was open and the route passed it twice, to stop there instead and skip the possibly wet and muddy gravel road down to Mallows Bay Park.
The Fast Group decided to skip the first stop at the Nanjemoy Store and so didn't get the word, so on the way past the Park Ron decided to go down the gravel road to see if any of our group was down there waiting. He returned with three riders.
Jim and his guest Tracie were new to the area, so we got to introduce them to Nanjemoy and Durham Church Road, and that's always fun.
