3/5 Best of Brandywine: Jug Bay, Mount Calvert & Markle

Patuxent River at Mount Calvert

Ride leader: Steve Palincsar

Members: Patricia Sanders, Fred Robbins, Renee Brewster, Ron Altemus, Debby Bowman, Sam Perry and Lisha Peacock, who joined us en route.

Route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/12982543  33 mi, 1326' elevation gain

Weather: Partly to mostly cloudy, 49 degrees at the start rising to 55 by mid-afternoon.  The wind, which initially had been predicted to be 17-19 mph had moderated to 3-4 mph.  Not as warm-feeling as it would have been had the sun been out, but still a very pleasant early spring day.

Alpaca Farm on Mount Calvert Road

Mishaps and mechanicals: Sam had a flat tire at the Patuxent River Park Pavilion - which turned out to be a very nice place to repair a glass puncture.  Then as we were climbing on the steepest part of Duvall, Renee had shifting issues and dropped the chain, and when that was fixed and she got back under way she had one of those stall-and-fall-over, can't get out of your pedals things, with no harm done.

AMS: 11.5

It was a fine day to be out enjoying the coming of spring, and to welcome our newest member, Renee Brewster, who joined this morning just before coming to North Keys Park for the ride.  It was fun seeing the alpacas out on Mount Calvert Road.  They weren't there when we went down to the Park, but the were out in force when we came riding back.
