Route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/31737622 Outbound via Pomfret, Marshall Corner, Valley, Locust Grove, and St Mary's. Return using Quailwood, Hawthorne, Ripley, Poorhouse, the Stuckeys, Mason Spring, and Livingston. 34.8 miles, 1,282' elevation gain.
Weather: damp, overcast, dreary start in the upper 50s. Riding back from La Plata, the skies cleared, the sun came up, and temps climbed into the upper 60s. We encountered a constant NW wind.
AMS: 12 mph at the rear
Mechanicals/Mishaps: Steve flatted on Pomfret and pulled into the IHRT to affect repairs. He advised that others continue - he was going to fix the flat, do some noodling, and head back. Carrying three tubes, Steve assumed he would be fine but two of them wouldn't hold air! The third, already double patched, enabled him to get back to Bryans Road successfully.
Report: As noted above, the weather was less than ideal at ride start. Light rain/mist had been encountered enroute to Bryans Road. Fortunately, that was gone by the time we took off and we only had wet pavement to contend with outbound. This was the first time on Pomfret since a severe midsummer storm had toppled trees along the creek area. Quite a number down visible from the road. Not much else to report scenic wise.
Given our 10 rider limit, Jane and Jim Hudnall rode the same route with an earlier ride start and were only seen by a few at Bryans Road. Jackie and Randy Schoch did an alternate version starting/ending at the Livingston Road IHRT parking lot. We met up with them at the Dash-In. Social/physical distancing etiquette was observed throughout the ride.
