Leader: Ron Altemus
Members: David Magnet, Diane Harris, Donaro Gardner, Fred Robbins, Jand & Jim Hudnall, Joan Oppel, Patricia Sanders
Route: Outbound via Marshall Hall to Barrys Hill; through Accokeek to Berry and then up Mill Hill; Lexington, Middleton, the IHRT, and US-301 to a rest stop at the Dash-In at Marshall's Corner. Return on Marshall's Corner, Middleton, the IHRT and either MD-210 or Chapman's Landing back to our start. 36 miles, 955' elevation change. RWGPS: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/31543231
Weather: Temps in a narrow range of 51-54 depending on cloud cover while winds were mostly out of the SW quadrant, gusting into the mid 20s at times. As an added treat, 10-15 seconds of rain on Marshall's Corner!
AMS: swept at about 12 mph
Mechanicals/Mishaps: Nothing serious but 1) the ride leader (aka your faithful correspondent) forgot his Garmin so the above AMS is a guesstimate; and, 2) Joan had a sore thigh muscle that she couldn't get to feel better while riding, so she shortened her excursion to about 10 miles.
Report: billed as a Larry Peed remembrance ride, we did a little bit of the Tour de Accokeek, St Charles roadways, and most of the Indian Head Rail Trail, all routes which he had loved to ride. We were joined by Larry's son-in-law, David Magnet, providing the opportunity to share memories of Larry. The aforementioned breezes made for some tough sloughing at times - seems like the only time we had a tailwind was the final section from Lower Wharf back to our ride start.
