Friday IHRT ride

Fri, June 08, 2018 10:00 AM | Ron Altemus (Administrator)

Leader:  Ron Altemus

Members:   Susan Altemus, Fran Jezisek, Belinda Acre, John Riconda, Wilma Fant, Jan Tucker, Leslie Harding, Jackie Schoch, Bev White.  Seen enroute:  George Chiamulera, road captain Barbara Haney

Route:   the Friday regular - Indian Head Rail Trail from Village Green to White Plains and return

Weather:   high overcast so sunny but no blue skies, temps from the mid 70s to low 80s, increasing humidity, some breeze

Mechanicals:   no ride/club related problems but when the last of us returned to the Village Green, two young boys that had been seen riding the trail now had a flat tire.  Fran offered the assistance of your faithful correspondent, and ably assisted by Barbara, we were able to get the rear wheel off.  It wasn't equipped with a quick release lever but fortunately I had a 15mm wrench in the car that did the trick.  The tube, a Shrader valve 26x2.3, had suffered a pinch flat.  In another fortunate occurrence, Fran had the correct size tube.  So we got the two of them up and rolling fairly quickly.

Report:  Wilma was riding the IHRT for the first time - she acquitted herself quite well.  Leslie, the mystery woman of past reports, was riding the IHRT from the Village Green for the first time.  She also acquitted herself nicely.  John, Wilma, and Leslie headed back first.  Those remaining met up with Jackie at White Plains and Bev came along as we were heading back so we rode together to the Livingston Road parking lot, where both of them had started.  Lots of other trail users today, the majority of which were cyclists.  We also shared the trail with a good number of turtles, thankfully none of the snapping variety.  The May rains have the trees and grasses in a very lush shade of green.  An enjoyable Friday IHRT ride - but then, aren't they all?

If by “ably assisted “ you mean watched while you did all the work and I chatted with the kids, I’m glad I could help!
