10/31 Fearsomely Haunted Fort Hunt ALL class 20 mi ride

Wed, October 31, 2018 10:00 AM | Ron Altemus (Administrator)

Leaders:  Ron Altemus & Joan Oppel

Members:  Susan Altemus, Patricia Sanders, Steve Palincsar, Jay Lewis, Ken Williamson, Steve Forman, Belinda Acre, Polly Choate, Jessica Hirschhorn, Christine Campbell, Norm Lisy, Larry Peed

Guests (inc. Potomac Pedalers, Wednesday Irregulars, Babes on Bikes):   Mark Pankin, Jim Fortmuller, Bunny Maurer (sp), Barbara H., Bill Brown, Dan Stoltz

Route:   Serpentined through Ft Hunt neighborhoods of Stratford Landing, Riverside Gardens, Hollin Hall,  Collingwood Estates, and Waynewood.  Almost flat with minimal elevation change.

Weather:   perfect!  Temps starting in the low 50s rising to the mid 60s by ride's end with nothing but sunshine.

AMS:  a very leisurely sightseeing pace under 10 mph

Report:  a great turnout for what might become an annual Halloween event.  The aforementioned neighborhoods didn't disappoint with the decorations, some scary, one or two gruesome, a few whimsical, and all fun to view.  By necessity, we rode together, frequently stopping to take in the sights.  A couple of residences will be particularly spooky once darkness descends this evening.  In particular, the Brothers ElectriGrimm on Crowley in Waynewood will be giving many a neighorhood child a fun (and scary) time.
