11/1 Best of Brandywine CC - Mt Calvert & Patuxent River Park

Thu, November 01, 2018 10:30 AM | Stephen Palincsar

Ride leader: Steve Palincsar

Members: a bit confused, because after several obviously faster folks had signed my waiver, Mike and Regina arrived with revised cue sheets and a B waiver of their own.  Those who actually rode with the CC group included  Harry Kidd and the Electric Schochs (all electrified and mostly at their own pace); Pat Walthers, Joan Oppel, Ron Altemus and for part of the ride, Alan Kurzweil.

Weather: sunny, breezy, low 60s at the start rising to the low 70s.

Image may contain: tree, sky, plant, outdoor, nature and water

Route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/5580959?beta=false, except that everyone (Bees and CCs included) decided to skip Cross Road Trail - not only has the pavement deteriorated to the unacceptable level, but according to Harry Kidd, who drove it on the way to the park, it was also wet.  Mike Saizan added an extra loop on Gibbons Church, Brandywine and North Keys to make up mileage, but none of the CCs took it.  We did, however, go all the way down the gravel driveway to Mount Calvert, which looked lovely today.

Mishaps & mechanicals: none

AMS: 11.8

Some beautiful leaf color today.  Nothing like the bold, highly saturated colors of the Berkshires, of course; but unlike some of the drab autumns of recent memory where the leaves just went taupe to brown and dropped, today the trees were dressed in a lovely palette of greens, yellows, subtle oranges and even some reds - and not just in Patuxent River Park but throughout the area.
