Leader:   Joan Oppel

Members:   Ron Altemus, Alan Kurzweil, Larry Peed, Patricia Sanders, Randy Schoch and Jackie Schoch

Route:   Flat first half, Gibbons Church, Rt 381, Ashbox, Cedarville, then to ride around the Pinefield neighborhood, return to Cedarville. Stop at WaWa, on to Accokeek, S Springfield (who put that hill there), Floral Park to Thrift, around Cosca, Surratts to F Tippett, 301 to the Indian Head, Van B, Molly B, N Keys return.

Weather:   Temperatures hovering just under 50. Mostly overcast (again, third day in a row without real sun) but the sun could be seen as a pale orb through the clouds so not so gloomy. A little wind occasionally

Average speed: Group more or less stayed together

Mechanicals/Mishaps: None

Report:  A flat first half to the WaWa, then a few hills and then all the elevation gain is in the final 19 miles, so 1320 feet of gain in 19 miles. A good stat for a route in Prince Georges/Charles Counties. The route was not planned for hills, it was chosen so we went some place different for a rest stop than Moreland or Merkle.

Until we got to Cosca Park, we stayed together, then Larry broke off at some point and Randy and Jackie went on past Cosca. Pat, Alan, Ron and I finished more or less together. Lots of standing water on several roads, due to some overnight rain and completely saturated ground. One car passing too fast on Dent Rd managed to splash puddle water right on Jackie. Aside from that, all in all, a really good day in January to ride.
