Mishaps and mechanicals: none
Route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/29230034?beta=false The ride name sums it up. 34 miles from Oak Ridge Park along quiet back roads in Charles and St Mary's County. We began by crossing Route 5 and riding along Golden Beach, All Faith Church and New Market Turner Rd. All agreed that the hills were much steeper than they were the last time we rode there. At the top of one climb, yours truly noticed for the first time how close we were to the Patuxent River. After a stop at a Shell Station, we crossed Three Notch Rd and enjoyed the flatness of the trail up to Locke's Crossing, then rode through the heart of Amish country on Dixie Lyon and Ryceville. After a quick stop at the Amish school house we took Trinity Church, Dubois, Charles and Keech Rd back to Oaks Rd and the park.
Weather: Somewhat cloudy with temps in the mid-high 40s and a breeze from the southwest. We would have preferred more sun and less wind, but it wasn't bad for January.
Four-legged friends: Lots of puppers in yards along the route and a couple at the park as we packed up our gear. Goats, ducks and turkeys at various farms. Fuzzy brown cattle just on the other side of a barbed-wire fence next to the Three Notch Trail.
Report: The hills seemed harder than usual, the wind seemed to kick up when we finally reached the flats, and it was a bit cooler than we had hoped it would be. But we all agreed that we were happy to be out riding our bikes! The lead group was up the road and out of sight of those of us at the back, but we all came together at the rest stops and at the end. All in all it was an enjoyable ride with a great group of people. Thanks to everyone for joining me!
