8/11 Goose Bay and Halfway There C/CC 32 mi

Sun, August 11, 2019 10:00 AM | Stephen Palincsar

Ride leader: Steve Palincsar

Members: Patricia Sanders, Karen & Stuart Morgan, Steve Forman, Jay Lewis, Marc & Linda Blackman, Jim McDermott, Pat Walthers, Norm Lisy, Sarah Clement, Loretta Troen, Althea Johnston and, riding to the ride start and leaving for home after the second rest stop, Walt Roscello.  (Present but not accounted for: Jessica Hirschhorn and guest Adriana.)

Route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/30789866 32 mi, 1100' of elevation gain, a route created fresh for the occasion* that went south on Annapolis Woods, Fire Tower and Mill Swamp to a rest stop at Goose Bay, then went up Blossom Point to Burch, Poorhouse and Ripley and a second stop at Ollies.  We returned down the western slope of Mighty Mount Pisgah to Chicamuxen, Marbury Run Rd and Bicknell back to the park.

Weather: Another incredibly fabulous day.  Sunny, breezy, not too humid, low 70s at the start rising to the high 80s by early afternoon.  Can these really be the dog days of August?  If only Labor Day is this good!

Mishaps & mechanicals: none

AMS: 11.2 at the rear.

This was a combined C/CC ride, with faster and slower riders who arranged themselves in congenial groups, looked out for one another, got together at the rest stops and had a lot of fun being with each other.

*No "canned rides" here, regardless of what some folks think
