Leader: Ron Altemus
Members: Belinda Acre, Donaro Gardner, Fran Jezisek, Jackie Schoch, Jay Lewis, Randy Schoch, Susan Altemus
Route: the one, the only, the Indian Head Rail Trail. Livingston Rd parking lot to White Plains and return, 20 miles.
Weather: plenty of sunshine and blue skies, temps in the 60s, breezes out of the NW above the forecast 4-5 mph
Mechanicals/Mishaps: thankfully, none for our group. However, the sweeping ride leader came upon a group of three at the Bumpy Oak pond attempting to fix a flat. Two of the riders were trying to help another - unfortunately, they knew next to nothing about Presta valves and had managed to remove the valve from the stem of the flatted tube and promptly dropped it/lost it in the grass. I was unable to provide any assistance since the only tube I had with me was a 35-42 while a replacement tube of 25-32 was needed. And I couldn't get the valve out of my spare.
Report: The trail is just starting to show some fall color. No wildlife observed and not as many trail users as have been present on some other Fridays. As is usual for a Friday IHRT ride, everyone made it to White Plains at their own preferred rate of speed, social distanced for a rest stop, and returned, again, at the pace that best fit their riding style.
